Genesis 2:15 says that God made man and put him in the garden to work it and keep it.  This means that work is intrinsic to human nature and is a part of the divine image.  If someone performs open heart surgery; if he prepares a sermon or sweeps the street, all of this reflects the nature of God who brings chaos into order and gives meaning to the formless void.
