The creative voice of god

God created all things by his word.  He called them into existence.  Each one of the six days of Creation begins with the phrase: “And God said”.  Psalm 33:6 and 9 say:

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
    and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
For he spoke, and it came to be;
    he commanded, and it stood firm.

The word of God produces everything that is made. It is his word that creates the light in the midst of darkness, the earth in the midst of the sea, the air in the midst of water. Above all, God gives the breath of life to mankind.  The word of the Lord has the power to give life, form, and structure to the earth. But, God not only created the world (Heb. 11:3; 2 Peter 3:5); he also continues to speak to us through his written Word and thereby brings form and structure to our chaotic lives, such that we would also be fruitful and develop. The power that acts in the Creation of the world is the same power which acts within us to tranform us.
